Last week, with the COP28 climate summit on the horizon, hundreds of you sent us your messages for Rishi Sunak, demanding debt cancellation for climate justice. Just as the Prime Minister was preparing to leave for Dubai, we made sure he heard you loud and clear – by projecting your messages onto the Houses of Parliament!

The climate and debt crises are two sides of the same coin. Fifty-four countries are in debt crisis, leaving them unable to respond to climate catastrophe and forced to take on even more debt when disaster hits. To make matters worse, these are the countries least responsible for the climate crisis in the first place.

International spaces like COP28 are key opportunities for us to make sure our demand to cancel the debt for climate can’t be ignored. That’s why we made sure your demands were heard by the government ahead of the summit, and why we’re at COP28 right now – we won’t let the message drop.

We’ve been overwhelmed by the thought and time so many of you put into your messages to Rishi Sunak to cancel the debt. And while we couldn’t project every single message onto the Houses of Parliament, we’ve been making sure that as many of them as possible get to the Prime Minister by sending them to him on social media ([link removed]) .

Neither the debt crisis nor the climate crisis will go away without political action. That’s why it’s vital we keep up the pressure for debt cancellation.
