Our team is closely monitoring the latest developments of the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic, and we’re taking every precaution to prevent any possible spread of the virus. I am also coordinating closely with the CDC, our state and county governments, our mayors, and our hospitals. American lives are on the line — that isn’t something I take lightly.

That’s why I believe that now — more than ever — families across the country need guaranteed paid leave, access to quality, affordable care, and free, comprehensive testing for this deadly disease. I’m working with my colleagues in Congress to pass legislation that addresses all of these issues and more.

As we fight this public health threat and work for solutions, there are common-sense things we can all do to stay safe and healthy. Remember to:

Wash your hands with soap and warm water for 20 seconds (singing along to the chorus of your favorite song helps)

Cover all coughs and sneezes with your elbow (not just out of courtesy — it really helps)

Avoid touching your mouth or eyes, especially after shaking someone’s hand or using public transportation

Of course, if you feel even a little under the weather, stay home and isolate yourself from others if possible. All of these steps will help slow and limit the spread of this disease.

I urge you to call the New Jersey Department of Health’s COVID-19 24-hour hotline at 1-800-222-1222 if you have questions or concerns about the virus and possible exposure. The Centers for Disease Control’s coronavirus website is a great resource, too — you’ll find the latest information on the disease and how to protect yourself.

We're going to get through this. Americans aren’t just tough — we’re resilient. But until this pandemic is defeated, we’ve got to protect ourselves and our families. I’ll keep you updated on what we’re doing next. Stay safe.

Yours,

Josh
