And why is our Democratic congressman taking money from insurrection-backers?

Folks I stumbled onto this report from Ryan Grim’s new book a couple days ago, and it got me thinking, just who IS taking money from AIPAC?

A graphic featuring a headline from Huffington Post dated December 5, 2023, which reads: “Top Pro-Israel Group Offered Ocasio-Cortez $100,000 Campaign Cash, Per New Book. A representative of AIPAC approached Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s team with a generous offer in July 2018, according to aides.”

So I dug into the FEC reports, and discovered millions in donations since last year – overwhelmingly to Democrats, and mostly to undercut progressive primary challengers.

AIPAC has never come knocking on my door with a $100K check (AOC turned it down, by the way), and I’m not at all surprised. It’s not exactly a secret where I stand. 👇

A screenshot of a tweet by Jason Call sent December 3, 2023, in which he posts a photo taken from an interstate bridge overpass in his district where a number of protesters have gathered to support a ceasefire. The tweet reads: “Rain or shine, we are here to free Palestine.”

But you know who gets a lot of calls from AIPAC? My opponent, Rick Larsen.

Rick is a former lobbyist turned corporate Democrat who’s held on to this seat for 23 years. And in the last 18 months Larsen has taken over $30,000 in direct donations and earmarked member contributions from AIPAC. Take a look.

An animated gif showing FEC records of AIPAC contributions to Rick Larsen.

As a reminder: The same year AIPAC started dumping money into Rick Larsen’s campaign is the year they financially backed and endorsed over 3-dozen insurrectionist, election-denying Republicans.

If AIPAC’s devotion to Palestinian genocide wasn’t already a hard pass for me (and it is), then taking a dime from Trump donors and insurrectionists absolutely would be.

So I have to ask, what is a Democrat representing a progressive district like WA-02 doing taking money from insurrectionist funders and genocide apologists?

Moments like this reinforce my decision to abandon the Democratic party and run for this seat as a Green. And honestly, this race is our BEST shot of getting our first Green candidate elected to Congress.

Washington’s “top two” primary system, combined with the fact that this is a VERY progressive district, means that there is absolutely no chance a Republican can be elected here.

In November 2024, there are only two people who can win this seat – a corporate war-machine-funded Democrat, or me. I need your help to get through the primary so we can take on Rick Larsen in the general, and put real working-class representation into office.

AIPAC knows exactly what they’re doing. They recognize that 80%+ of Democratic voters do NOT support the U.S.-funded genocide in Gaza. So their only hope of maintaining the pipeline of billions in unconditional military aid to Netanyahu is buying the support of current members of Congress.

AIPAC spent upwards of $50 million dollars to knock solid progressives out of the running in 2022 – primarily women of color. This cycle they’ve pledged to spend double that.

I’ve had a lot of folks tell me, “You should stick to local issues.”

Listen...anytime our government is assisting war crimes, it’s local.

Boeing’s largest manufacturing plant is in my district. It’s local.

The 23-year incumbent I’m challenging has spent most of his career greenlighting Pentagon budgets while swimming in money from the American war machine and AIPAC. It’s local.

The consequences of Rick Larsen’s catastrophic foreign policy and funding stretch around the globe. But opposing that IS local.

I’m a former teacher. I’m a working class dad who sees the faces of my students and my children in every Palestinian child murdered in Gaza.

I’m also a lifelong anti-war activist, and a human being with a conscience. ALL of this is local.

I know I have an uphill battle running for Congress against Rick Larsen’s millions in corporate cash. I’m doing it anyway.

Over 80% of Democrats are on my side, and many of them will vote for me next year. I need your help to reach them, to win this race, and to shut down the American war machine.

In solidarity,

Jason

From Left to Right, Top to Bottom: 1) A group of young men and boys rush to evacuate injured children from the site of an airstrike, with an ambulance behind them. 2) A crowd gathers in a street amidst still-burning rubble after an airstrike brought down a large building. 3) Photo from a residential rooftop shows large clouds of black smoke a short distance away in a densely populated area. These are the result of the first airstrikes from Israel after the ceasefire was lifted. 4) Vehicles belonging to Doctors Without Borders are seen destroyed by artillery fire and still burning, taken by an MSF staffer who witnessed the assault on their medical aid convoy.
