Our VP just addressed the UN & screened our film Buying Her!

Two amazing things happened on Tuesday.

1. Our Vice President of Impact, Helen Taylor, addressed the United Nations at an event created to find ways to reduce and eliminate sex trafficking.

2. At this same event, we screened our new documentary Buying Her, which exposes how sex buyers create the demand for sex trafficking.

Here’s an excerpt from Helen’s speech:

“Shame on us as a global community if we continue talking about fighting human trafficking but are too afraid to address the elephant in the room—the economic source of trafficking and the demand that drives the supply of children, vulnerable women and girls. Purchased consent is coerced consent. Resistance to violence against women must include addressing prostitution and reducing demand.”

Buying Her is the first documentary ever to explore the lives of sex buyers and what drives them, and it illuminates the very root of sex trafficking: male demand.

If we want to end sex trafficking, we must pull it up by its roots. That means finding ways to eliminate demand, and that’s why it’s critical for us to understand sex buyers.

This film uncovers how childhood exposure to porn has become a gateway drug to eventual sex buying, demonstrates the callous posture in which many men purchase sex and—critically—shows how even these men can change.

Screenings like these help us reach legislators around the world with this essential message: we must pass laws that focus on ending male demand.

This event was a line-in-the-sand moment in which we were able to invite UN member states to adopt legislation that will uproot trafficking, and we believe the message was heard loud and clear.

Our previous films have already been instrumental in helping to shape laws around the world, and Buying Her is poised to inspire new, stronger laws that will protect millions of women and children from sex trafficking.
