Dear John,

This year we saw food insecurity increase following the end of pandemic-related relief. As 2023 nears an end, we look back on what has been a challenging year where:

    • 30% of Philadelphians reported having fewer dollars for groceries.
    • 1 in 4 local kids did not have the food they needed to thrive - this is DOUBLE the national rate.

This year we were able to:

    • Connect 121,000 visitors with food pantries through our map - a 30% increase from the year before.
    • Support 59 local food pantries and soup kitchens as they worked to deliver food to over 420,000 people in their neighborhoods.
    • Connect 4,750 people in over 2,500 households with approximately $547,000 in SNAP benefits.

We know that hunger is preventable - that’s why we must continue this important work to build a food secure Philadelphia region.
