Hi there --
In just a few months, novel corona (COVID-19) has become a global health crisis that demands action at all levels of government. We know that many of you are uncertain and the lack of clarity from federal officials has done nothing to assuage your anxiety. Right now, the Run for Something team is working with our alumni and current candidates to help address the situation, but here are a few things we recommend:
-
Check in with your local or state official. Right now, there isn’t a central hub identifying how different cities or localities are managing the crisis. Our recommendation? Go directly to the source. In the past 48 hours, hundreds of state representatives and local officials have taken to social media to update their constituents on COVID-19. Right now is the perfect time to follow your reps and keep up to date.
-
If you planned on joining us for an in-person event, hold on tight. We are currently working with our events team on all March and April plans. If you RSVP’d for an event, expect to hear from one of us in the next 48 hours.
-
Never stop fighting the good fight. In a public health crisis, we know that the most vulnerable are always those that are the least economically secure. As federal, state, and local governments respond to the spread of coronavirus, we must do all we can to keep people secure enough to take care of themselves and endure a quarantine or treatment if required.
-
Support a down-ballot candidate right now. Because of the pandemic, hundreds of incredible candidates have had to cancel in-person events right before a major primary (March 17). This means that doors are going un-knocked, phone calls are not being made, and yes, donations are not coming through. These candidates have worked their damndest to make it to the finish line and we want to give them any and all of the support that we can.
Thank you -- and stay healthy!
