Johh,

There is not a single day in my life as an American I am not deeply and tragically aware of gun violence.

As we close out 2023, 39,939 people lost their lives to gun violence in the United States. This carnage is uniquely American and stretches back decades.

I can very clearly remember the horror I felt when I sat in my office in the Longworth Office Building as I watched the horrific events of the Columbine shooting unfold. When a shooter murdered twelve people in 2012 at a theater in Aurora, my daughter's close friend was in the theater right next door. And three of the deceased — including six-year-old Veronica Moser — were a part of the community I have had the privilege of representing.

I am tired, and I am angry that, to this day, our news cycle is still a continuing cycle of massacres and completely preventable shootings. While GOP puppets fight amongst each other on who can out-extreme Donald Trump, our people are dying. I know that if any of them wins the presidency, our country will never pass the comprehensive gun reform we need.

We desperately need change, and we needed it years ago — and I'm ready to make it in 2024.

I have never been afraid to stand up to gun special interest groups and extremist members of Congress. As an elected official, there is no greater duty than protecting our constituents. That's why I have championed an assault weapons ban, red flag laws, and other measures gun extremists have been hell-bent on blocking — and why I’ll never stop fighting for gun reform in Congress. It's also why I am proud to help President Biden win in 2024.

It's going to take more than one bill or one action to end the gun violence epidemic, but I am committed to doing everything I can to pass stronger gun safety legislation and save lives.

If you're with me, I hope you will add your name to this petition and join me in demanding action to end gun violence >> [link removed]

Thank you,

Diana
