I cannot believe I am writing to you again about the erosion of democracy in the 2024 election.
We have found out that North Carolina is joining Florida in kicking Democratic candidates off the ballot and denying a choice to voters. The Democratic Party in the state has decided to submit only Joe Biden’s name.
It is tragic to witness fundamental American democracy under attack not just from far-right MAGA Republicans, but from the very establishment of our own Democratic Party, which I have passionately supported my entire adult life.
In the past number of weeks, two states’ Democratic Parties have unilaterally canceled their competitive 2024 primary elections and declared one candidate the victor - without a single ballot cast by Democratic voters.
While our movement will be on the ballot in 45 states, we cannot stand idly by as a handful of Party officials disenfranchise millions of voters. When they effectively determine the nominee without allowing Democrats to voice their preferences through a competitive primary, they undermine the very essence of our democratic system.

A Quinnipiac Poll published in November continues to show that a significant portion of Democrats and Independents are demanding new choices for 2024. At a time when our democracy is already under threat, it is deeply troubling to witness such decisions coming from within our own Democratic Party. It is entirely contradictory to our principles and sets a dangerous precedent for the future of our nation.
By unilaterally eliminating competitive primaries, these Party officials are silencing millions of voters. I urge you to consider the broader implications of these decisions and to support efforts to ensure a fair and open democratic process. Our party and our country need to stand up to combat this hypocritical, inexcusable, and dangerous corruption.
