George Santos has officially been expelled from Congress, which means that we're heading into a critical special election in this battleground district. In 2022 New York was one of the only places in the country to see a red wave materialize. And when all the votes were counted, the four seats that the GOP picked up here — including George Santos' — were enough to retake control of the House. It was the best election cycle for Republicans here in decades.

Now, they're gearing up to expand on their victories in 2024, investing in more battleground districts and even targeting my Senate seat. But with this special election, we have a chance to stop them in their tracks.

As the sole New York Democrat at the top of the ticket in 2024, I'm doing absolutely everything that I can to fend off another red wave and build Democratic momentum across our state. But it's going to be a razor-thin race. This special election — in a district President Biden won by nearly 9 points — would give us a major advantage over the GOP. We cannot let it go to waste.
