Please join us in congratulating three of our staff members -- Chief Operating Officer Stephanie Frank, Chief Financial Officer James Latta, and Director of Campaigns & Engagement Dyneco Gibson -- on their new roles with the New Pennsylvania Project!

Stephanie's dedication to democracy in the commonwealth comes from a combination of deep generational PA roots and over a decade of fighting for systemic policy change at the state government level, forming the belief that positive change comes from the ground up.

James is passionate about building effective, impactful, and sustainable organizations that can do this important work, year after year.

Dyneco believes this work is important to her because she wants her teenage daughter to know that as a minority woman, her voice is important. And, for her to remember that African Americans and women did not always have the right to vote.

Congratulations to James, Stephanie, and Dyneco -- we're so excited to watch you excel in your new roles!

NPP CEO Kadida Kenner took part in a video presentation as part of Black Women Speak's Unerased initiative where she discussed our organization, as well as, how to best engaged those in your network to get out and vote.

Eclipsed in his Era, Bayard Rustin Gets to Shine in Ours

Bayard Rustin has emerged of late as a hero almost perfectly tuned to our time. A Black civil-rights leader who was an architect of the 1963 March on Washington, he was also, in an aptly intersectional way, a gay man who suffered for his gayness—suffered in the homophobic America of the nineteen-forties and fifties, of course, but also within the homo-suspicious civil-rights movement of the sixties. A peerless manager and mentor, Rustin had still done more, and harder, prison time than almost any of the other great leaders of the movement.

Michigan is first state to automatically register ex-prisoners to vote

Michigan on Thursday became the first U.S. state to automatically register people to vote when they are released from prison, part of a slew of new election laws that also affect artificial intelligence, harassment and young voters.

Judge nixes minimum wage hike for Allegheny County workers

An effort to establish and increase a minimum wage up to $20 an hour for Allegheny County employees was ruled invalid by a judge this week. The bill was challenged by Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald after it was passed over his veto. Fitzgerald said when he filed an action for declaratory judgment this summer that while he supports wage increases in general, he believed county council did not have the legal authority to create and increase county employees’ wages. #CourtsMatter
