John,
How many times have you heard someone say - “I don't like to get political" as a polite way to get out of a controversial topic of conversation? Politics has never been polite dinner table conversation, and even more so now that our political environment is more bitter and divisive than ever before.
But the reality is that politics impacts people's everyday lives whether we "get political" or not, from whether families can afford lifesaving medication for their children to which communities get funding for transportation projects, to our very rights and freedoms to exist in a democratic society. Politics is personal.
The problem isn't politics itself but how we choose TO DO politics. I decided to get into politics because I knew we needed people willing to lower the temperature, find common ground, and build consensus around issues that matter. And that's what I'm doing every day. I'm undeterred when someone tries to stir the pot or cause division for the sake of division. I remain focused on what matters, with a steady hand on the wheel and a calm demeanor.
If you think we need more practical, problem-solving folks willing to get political for our democracy and rights, consider supporting my critical swing seat below with a $10 contribution today.
