When I worked at Waffle House, I just didn't feel safe.
The violence we've all seen on the news and social media is real, and my coworkers and I have seen it firsthand. We've been threatened at gunpoint over hashbrowns and cleaned up blood from the lobby after a fight. This isn't what I signed up for, so I'm speaking out.
We should be able to go to South Carolina's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the agency in charge of keeping workers safe. But we're being ignored.
And they're not just ignoring our calls, they're ignoring extreme heat, mold, lack of safety gear, burn hazards, and more. They're supposed to protect us, but they're protecting the bosses instead.

Over the last four years, South Carolina OSHA has only performed TWO proactive inspections at a fast-food restaurant, warehouse, or retail store. At one Dollar General store that was infested with mold, they conducted an "investigation" over the phone and didn't even realize management sent in pictures from a different location until we sued. If the people meant to help us aren't doing their jobs, we'll make them.
We need oversight on our bosses. And if South Carolina won't act, the federal government needs to step in. Share our call for action today and join the fight.
