Team,
This morning, a Texas court ruled that our client, Kate Cox, can get an abortion to protect her health, life, and future fertility. This is a win for Kate and her family, but many Texans are not able to do what Kate has done—and are forced to continue pregnancies that put their lives at risk due to the state's extreme abortion bans.
Right now, we're still fighting for all Texans who are experiencing severe and dangerous pregnancy complications to have the ability to get abortions in their home state. Today's decision is a step in the right direction, but we need you with us to continue this fight.
Here's what Judge Maya Guerra Gamble said from the bench today when delivering her ruling:
The idea that Ms. Cox wants so desperately to be a parent and this law may have her lose that ability is shocking and would be a genuine miscarriage of justice.
As Molly Duane, lead attorney in this case and our ongoing Zurawski v. State of Texas case said, today's decision underscores what we already know—abortion is essential health care. While we are grateful that Kate will be able to get this urgent medical care, it is unforgivable that she was forced to go to court to ask for it in the middle of a medical emergency.
We need your support as we fight to make sure no one goes through the nightmare Kate and countless others have experienced.
Onward,
Nancy Northup
