Team,
As I complete six months as the president of National Immigration Law Center, I can’t begin to tell you what an honor it is to be part of a team that fights back and fights forward — so seamlessly, so effectively, so relentlessly — for all low-income immigrants.
As the year ends, I have the privilege of thanking you for your continued support of our mission which for millions of people, such as myself, is personal. Your commitment has and will continue to serve as inspiration to us — yesterday, today and tomorrow.
I hope you’ll take a moment to let me tell you a little of my own story, and about our exciting $500,000 end-of-year matching gift challenge!
If you’d like to go ahead and make a donation toward our matching gift challenge now, you can do so here: https://donate.nilc.org/page/59984/donate/[email protected]
My own journey from Puerto Rico to the United States showed me the unique challenges faced by many immigrant communities. My decision to devote my life to social justice is rooted in my lived experiences as a Black Latina woman experiencing the sting of racism and gender discrimination from an early age, being told what I could and could not do, and witnessing the disproportionate impact of poverty on the lives of migrants and people of color.
At NILC, the core of our work is the deeply held belief that people matter. That empathy and respect for people matters. Our work is about people, their dignity, and our collective power to create change when we fight together for what is right. We couldn’t do this work without you.
To continue making a difference, we need your support. This year, a group of generous donors have asked us to challenge others to match their $500,000 investment — meaning the power of your gift is doubled if you give by December 31st. Can we count on your commitment with a year-end gift?
Friend, your donation will directly fund our critical legal services, advocacy initiatives, and community outreach programs that uplift and empower immigrant communities across the U.S.
Your gift will also help us get prepared for 2024. The forces of hatred have “proudly” announced that they will increase their attacks next year – on low-income immigrants and on the very organizations such as NILC who advocate so these vulnerable families get a fair break. Will you help us fight back?
With deep gratitude,
Kica Matos
President
National Immigration Law Center
