John,

I hope this email finds you well.

Usually that sentence is a pleasantry but, right now, it’s top priority. Like you, we’ve been monitoring the spread of the coronavirus, or COVID-19.

The COVID-19 outbreak comes at an already turbulent time for our country and the world. It only highlights the need to fight for a government that funds and enacts policies that benefit people and what we need to live and thrive. If anything, this public health crisis has made me more determined than ever to make our government and elected officials responsive and accountable to regular people like you and me.

But we can’t do that unless we are all healthy.

At Food & Water Watch and Food & Water Action, we care deeply about our staff, our supporters, and everyone across the country. That’s why we’re making sure we’re taking all the precautionary measures we can put in place. For the immediate future, Food & Water Watch and Food & Water Action have suspended most activities that would require people to come together in the same room. This includes trainings, fundraisers, and meetings.

However, our important work to fight for safe food, clean water and a livable climate will continue – this virus shows again how important collective action is to our own lives. We will not be deterred. At the same time, we’re thinking about you, our members and friends.

I hope you are taking measures to stay safe and informed. You can find updates from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention

and your local health authorities for more information, as the situation is changing quickly.

We still have so much to do when this pandemic has passed – and it will. When that happens, I want to see us fighting side-by-side, healthier and more committed than before.

In solidarity,

Wenonah Hauter
