A repeal of the ACA could eliminate health insurance for millions.

John,

Donald Trump’s campaign stops are getting a lot of media attention again.

But incredibly, a recent statement that received almost no coverage was Trump’s threat to “terminate” the Affordable Care Act (ACA) or Obamacare if he is President again.

As a reminder, any repeal of the ACA would have disastrous consequences for millions, including the more than 130 million who have a pre-existing condition.

The mainstream media isn’t talking about this, but we’re picking up their slack. We’ll tell you how, but first, please consider chipping in anything you can right now so we can keep covering the stories that matter in the communities that need it most.

One might assume that given the catastrophic impact a repeal would have on communities across the country, and the media’s obsession with all things Trump, the mainstream media would surely give this Trump story the coverage it deserves.

Yet ABC, CBS, and NBC News made no mention of Trump’s threat to repeal the ACA.

Meanwhile, Fox covered Trump’s threat in two segments — with both failing to mention the loss of benefits that would affect millions of Americans.

MSNBC and CNN had the most substantial coverage on Trump’s ACA threat, although even here, both outlets spent less than half of their segments discussing the impact on millions of Americans.

But do you know who covered this story in full? We did. Take a look below: ⬇️

In Virginia, our Dogwood newsroom has found that an estimated 1 million Virginians would lose their health insurance if Trump was successful in repealing the Affordable Care Act.

There is so much at stake in 2024. Everything from healthcare to the environment and climate change, and the future of democracy itself is on the line. That’s why our journalists are gearing up to pick up the mainstream media’s slack to not only fight back against dangerous right-wing conspiracy theories but to keep our communities engaged and informed.

With plans to expand and reach voters in key battleground states next year, we know this work won’t be easy — but it’s necessary.

But we can only continue to grow with your support — so we're asking today if you can contribute to power the journalism our democracy deserves.
