John,
It’s official - the House and Senate have both passed my bill, the Secure 5G and Beyond Act. It is headed to the president’s desk imminently to be signed into law.
The market dominance of firms, like Huawei and ZTE, that have strong ties to foreign intelligence and military services present a clear national security threat to the telecommunications infrastructure of our country and our allies. If we’re not equipped to address the challenge, we risk our personal privacy, our allies’ privacy, and American businesses’ competitiveness in the marketplace.
My legislation will implement a nationwide gameplan that will safeguard our vital communications infrastructure. My legislation will:
→ Request the creation of a national strategy for securing our 5G telecommunications across the country
→ Protect our allies by working with them to protect their 5G infrastructure
→ Safeguard our economy by ensuring U.S competitiveness through data and communications protection
John, every day I am working hard for the people of Central Virginia and our country. This legislation is one step in better protecting core infrastructure.
I will continue to focus on all of the ways we can strengthen our national security in Congress. In order to keep up this important work, I need to keep my seat next year. If you’d like to help me in my campaign for re-election, please consider a contribution.
