Dear John,
Often, discussions on the concept of religious freedom focus on creating interfaith dialogue. However, a full understanding of religious freedom and its importance to democracy encompasses the very real social and political impacts of religious majoritarianism, a view that dismisses minority protection and elevates the beliefs of only the majority.
In order to push back against threats to religious freedom, it is crucial for community-based civil society organizations to advocate for more inclusive societies in which all—majority and minority group members—have equal rights.
