Sensory Friendly Days and Bill of Rights Day December at the Museum Sensory Friendly Days Sunday, December 31 The National Constitution Center offers Sensory-Friendly Days to create an accessible learning experience for people of all abilities and their families while providing visitors with sensory processing challenges the opportunity to experience the museum in a secure and comfortable environment. Sensory-Friendly Days incorporate modified programming, specialized staff training, and emotionally safe spaces for families—including a room with a variety of sensory objects for visitors to use, comfortable seating, and cool blue lighting that creates a calming atmosphere. LEARN MORE Bill of Rights Day Friday, December 15 Join us live on Friday, December 15, to celebrate the freedoms of speech, press, religion, assembly, and petition. Participants can test their First Amendment knowledge through interactive programs and trivia, join a live guided tour of our new First Amendment gallery, and meet historic figures who used the First Amendment to expand the meaning of “We the People.” Programs at the Museum: Bill of Rights Trivia Game Do you know your rights? Which founder declared he would sooner chop off his right hand than sign the Constitution without a bill of rights? Not all of James Madison’s original proposals were accepted by the states! Find out which proposals didn’t make the cut. Meet the Dissenters Tour Travel back to the final days of the Constitutional Convention and join the debate about whether to adopt a bill of rights. Listen to the arguments for and against including a list of rights and freedoms, learn about which rights were included, and uncover the ratification process. First Amendment Scavenger Hunt Find the First Amendment! Pick up a First Amendment scavenger hunt card and explore the Center’s exhibits to find your freedoms! EVENT SCHEDULE Book Your Group Field Trips and Group Visits Your group is sure to be inspired, informed, and engaged by their visit to the National Constitution Center. The museum experience includes six signature attractions. The First Amendment: In our newest exhibit, discover how the First Amendment protects our most cherished freedoms—religious liberty, free speech, a free press, the freedom of assembly, and the right to petition—and how it impacts us today. Freedom Rising: This multimedia theater-in-the-round performance connects visitors—in an inspiring, unforgettable way—with the story of the U.S. Constitution and its ongoing role in our lives. The Story of We the People: This hands-on exhibit illuminates America’s constitutional history through innovative exhibits, films, photographs, rare artifacts, and engaging activities led by our education staff. Signers’ Hall: Sign the Constitution alongside 42 life-size, bronze statues of the Founding Fathers. Civil War and Reconstruction: Learn how constitutional clashes over slavery set the stage for the Civil War, and how the nation transformed the Constitution after the war during the Reconstruction period, taking a particularly close look at the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments. The 19th Amendment: Explore the long fight for women’s suffrage and discover the stories of the many women who transformed constitutional history.
