Hi John.
I hope you and your family are well!
I know the cost of health care is far too high for many Kansas families and seniors. So today, in case you didn’t know, I wanted to share some key resources that may help you.
First, a reminder that Medicare open enrollment ends tomorrow on December 7th. If you’re a senior who has been wondering about changing your health plan or prescription drug coverage, this is your opportunity to do that.
Please click here to explore your options now on Medicare.gov.
Every year, Medicare’s health and prescription drug plans can undergo various changes. These changes may impact a plan’s cost or even what pharmacies may be in network. Medicare Open Enrollment can be an opportunity to make key updates to ensure your coverage is more affordable and works for you.
This is also an opportunity to take advantage of new key savings under Medicare that I’ve been proud to support in Congress.
For example, I was glad to support a new law that’s capping the cost of insulin for Kansans on Medicare at $35 a month. Other improvements are coming too – including finally giving Medicare the power to negotiate with drug companies for lower prices.
Here are some other resources that may help:
• Facebook Live on Medicare Open Enrollment: I held a Facebook Live recently with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services on Medicare Open Enrollment. You can watch the video to get answers to your questions.
• Medicare and You: Medicare’s annual guide can help answer questions about Medicare, too. You can also call 1-800-Medicare.
• Help for Seniors: You can also visit my website’s Help for Seniors page for additional resources. Of course, feel free to always call us at (913) 621-0832 for assistance.
But help is available for other Kansans, too! Open enrollment on the health insurance marketplace is open until December 15th for coverage that begins on January 1st.
Please click here to visit HealthCare.gov right now to explore your options. Coverage may be more affordable than you think.
You can watch this recent clip from local KSHB to learn more about the open enrollment period and how you can save.
The burden of high health insurance costs has persisted for far too long. It forces hardworking Kansans to make difficult choices between necessary health care and other essential needs. To fix that, I’ve voted for legislation that is actively lowering health costs – saving some Kansans an average of $940 this year on premiums.
I know there’s a lot more that Congress has to do, but I’m glad to see the legislation my colleagues and I helped pass is making a difference. If you need health insurance coverage or want to explore your options, here are some places you can go to get help:
• Health insurance marketplace: You can visit HealthCare.gov to find, shop, and compare plans.
• Get in-person assistance: Different insurance plans can be complicated. You may be able to find local assistance to help navigate your options.
• More health care help: You can visit my website’s lower costs page to find additional help, including with surprise medical bills and more.
Finally, please know that my team is continuing to hold our Pop Up Office Hours throughout the Kansas Third District. This is a chance to get help more conveniently in your own neighborhood. If you’re having an issue with the federal government – anything from a stalled tax refund to a passport issue – please sign up for an appointment to get help.
We're having a Pop Up tomorrow, Thursday, in KCK and another on Friday in Osawatomie. More are coming up later in the month –
My job is to serve every person and corner of our community – regardless of party. Whether we agree on every issue or not is beside the point. Everyone deserves a government that works for them – not just for special interests, big corporations, or the extremes of either party.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.
My warmest regards,
Sharice L. Davids Member of Congress
