John,
My heart breaks for the students, staff, and families impacted by today’s horrific shooting at the University of Las Vegas.
Details are still emerging, but we now know that multiple people lost their lives today after a lone gunman opened fire on a college campus -- a place many consider a base of safety for millions of students across the country.
As a parent of a college student, I know that students should be stressed over finals -- not over the news of another shooting on a college campus. I also know that it is within our power to protect our kids and our communities through meaningful, common sense gun safety legislation to expand universal background checks and get weapons of war off our streets.
This is the 38th time the American people have witnessed a mass killing involving guns this year. We cannot become desensitized to this epidemic, and we need leaders with the moral courage and persistence to stand up to interests like the NRA to protect our communities.
That is why today, I am asking you to join me in calling on Congress to fulfill their duty to the American people. Sign on to demand action toward common sense legislation like universal background checks, safe storage requirements, and an assault weapons ban.
In unity,
Joanna
