My name is Nikki Budzinski. Lauren asked me to reach out to you to share my story.

I’m a proud labor advocate and trade unionist, and last year, I won a competitive race and became the first Democratic woman elected to represent Illinois’ 13th Congressional District. I couldn't ask for a better district neighbor than Lauren’s IL-14.

As a fellow Illinois Congresswoman who has made history and opened doors for people of all backgrounds to step up and lead, Lauren and I share our commitment to Illinois’ working families.

In 2022, I flipped IL-13 from red to blue for the first time in years, and now, I have the privilege of fighting for working families alongside Lauren in Congress.

Because of the examples set by my grandpa, a union painter, and my grandma, a public school teacher, I pursued a career in public service, advocating for workers and strengthening labor rights and protections. And since then, I’ve spent my entire adult life standing up for working families.

After college, I traveled the country fighting to get hardworking people the pay and workplace safety conditions they deserve. I fought to protect workers’ rights to collectively bargain for fair wages, safety protections, and benefits — but I knew I needed to do more.

So I came to Washington to build on my fight and ensure every person has a seat at the table. I’m honored to work alongside Lauren to pass legislation that protects workers’ rights, expands access to affordable healthcare, strengthens our state’s infrastructure, supports small businesses, and so much more.

Lauren and I are both deeply committed to improving the lives of working families every day in Congress, and our work is just getting started.
