John,
Congress needs to pass federal voting rights legislation. Even if poll taxes, literacy tests, and brutal physical intimidation are behind us, disenfranchisement tactics to suppress voter participation are alive and well.
Voting rights are under attack nationwide as states pass voter suppression laws. They are creating longer voting lines, fewer polling locations, and more ways for ballots to be thrown out. These voter suppression laws are designed to make it harder for millions of people — especially people of color — to vote.
The right to vote is precious, and we must fight to defend it. As citizens of this country, we are entrusted with a great responsibility to exercise the constitutional right to choose our elected officials.
For the sanctity of our democracy, our rights, and the notion of fair representation — we must pass voting rights protections at the federal level to protect the right to vote. Will you sign on to show your support for federal voting rights protections?
Thanks for standing with me on this critical issue,
Sanford Bishop
