‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌
John, we just made history! This week, the Durham Board of Commissioners elected me as our Chair – making me the youngest person and the first Muslim-American to fill this role in Durham history and in all of North Carolina.

I’m so honored, because this vote is a significant step forward in creating a brighter future in North Carolina, John.

Amid a rise in bigotry and hate, the board looked at me, a Muslim woman who has been personally attacked daily because of my identity, and elected me as Chair.

I’m committed to using this role to make life better for all of us. I know we can build on the progress we’ve made – but I have to stay here to make it happen. And winning my reelection depends on support from you, John.

Will you donate $27 to make this moment a launching pad that sends us straight into a brighter future for all of Durham County? >> ([link removed])

I’ve faced hateful attacks for years, especially growing up in a post-9/11 world. But I’ve used those attacks to fuel my commitment to building a brighter future.

This historic vote is the next step on that journey. It shows those hateful interests that Durhamites are united, and committed to building a community where diverse perspectives matter.

Together, we will continue our work for a guaranteed basic income, tax relief, protecting our workers, and fostering an environment where y’all means all.

But this vote isn’t the whole story. I still need your support to make sure this is just the beginning of what we’re going to keep achieving together. That means I need to raise another $982 by midnight tonight, to build onward and upward.

If you believe in a brighter future for Durham, will you donate $27 to keep me working for my community and help move us ALL forward? >> ([link removed])
