Dear John
As we move from the ‘Contain' to
'Delay' phase in the management of the Coronavirus, Londoners are
understandably concerned about what to do and what happens
next.
My strong view is that we should
listen to the official
advice, place trust in the
experts and resist the temptation to engage in speculation. We simply
do not have access to the latest scientific evidence, data and
modelling required to make judgements for ourselves.
But that does not mean that we are
powerless. During this critical time, the elderly, disabled, those on
low incomes and other vulnerable people will be hit the hardest. And
they need our support.
I’ve been speaking to charities and
other voluntary organisations and they are concerned about losing
volunteers, donations and funds right at the time of rising demand. I
know that many people will be facing challenges of their own. But, if
you are able to, please do consider supporting your local food bank or
other charities in your area over the coming period.
There are also simple things we can
be doing within our local communities: checking on neighbours, family
and friends who may need help with shopping, collecting prescriptions
or simply want a chat. A small act of kindness can make all the
difference.
And in that spirit of cooperation,
this is definitely not the time for party political point-scoring.
I have written to Sadiq Khan offering my full support on any London-wide
Coronavirus response, as well as suggesting that City Hall helps to
coordinate a volunteer task force across the capital.
We are at the start of a tough
period. But I know that Londoners are resilient and compassionate and
will pull together as we work through this.
Kind regards

CORONAVIRUS CAMPAIGN UPDATE
I know
that the Electoral Commission has recommended that Local Elections are
postponed.
The
latest Government advice is that they should go ahead as
planned.
Precautionary guidance for
campaigners has been issued
by the party and we will continue to monitor and act upon further
advice as it comes in.
LOVE
LONDON
I loved
hearing about the self-organised volunteer group set up by young
people in Kingston to support vulnerable people during the
Coronavirus.
BETTER
LONDON
This
project is quickly becoming the next financial black hole. We should
cancel it and prioritise investment in green transport infrastructure
instead.
