Representative Adriano Espaillat Hosts Annual Brides March Press Conference at U.S. Capitol
Member Continues Efforts to Build Awareness and Urge End to Domestic Violence and Intimate Partner Abuse
WASHINGTON, DC – On Tuesday, December 12th at 11:00 a.m. (EST), Representative Adriano Espaillat (NY-13) will host his annual “Brides March” vigil and press conference at the U.S. Capitol in memory of Gladys Ricart, who was murdered on her wedding day by a former abusive partner, and in support of all victims of domestic and intimate partner violence.
Each Congress, Rep. Espaillat introduces the Gladys Ricart Act to establish a nationwide public registry of criminals convicted of domestic violence offenses involving a firearm. Additionally, Rep. Espaillat was proud to be part of the successful congressional effort to reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act to ensure critical federal resources for domestic violence prevention, prosecution, and for survivors.

Representative Espaillat is the first Dominican American to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives and his congressional district includes Harlem, East Harlem, West Harlem, Hamilton Heights, Washington Heights, Inwood, Marble Hill and the north-west Bronx. First elected to Congress in 2016, Representative Espaillat is serving his fourth term in Congress.
