** Americans Want More
Work-Related Learning. Why Aren't We Giving It to Them?

Americans' views on the economy differ dramatically depending on which side of the diploma divide they fall on. A new comprehensive survey of working-class voters from my organization, Progressive Policy Institute (PPI), finds that working Americans believe they are worse off than they were 40 years ago.
The poll, done in partnership with YouGov, surveyed a representative national sample of voters without a four-year college degree and oversampled in seven key battleground states. The responses revealed that these workers feel like life has gotten harder for them, yet they believe national political leaders, and Democrats in particular, are more concerned about college graduates. It is one of the main reasons why these voters, who once formed the backbone of the Democratic Party, have become estranged from it.

On Friday, Dec. 1, PPI’s Tamar Jacoby co-led a bipartisan conversation on U.S. National Security and Ukraine with Rep. Don Bacon and Rep. Chrissy Houlahan. Jacoby guided an insightful discussion that presented a strong bipartisan point of view on the path forward for Ukraine amid the uncertain future of U.S. aid.

Staff Spotlight: Alex Kilander
[link removed] Analyst, Center for Funding America's Future
Alex Kilander is a Policy Analyst with PPI's Center for Funding America’s Future. Prior to joining PPI, Alex worked at the Treasury Department in the Office of the Secretary. His role there focused on managing the Secretary's daily briefing materials for a diverse set of issues within Treasury's jurisdiction. Before Treasury, Alex served as a staffer for the House Appropriations Committee and as a Research Assistant for the National Institute for Early Education Research.
Alex graduated from Princeton University with a Bachelor of Arts in Public and International Affairs, where he wrote a thesis on the 2021 expanded Child Tax Credit's implementation.
