Hi John,
I have some good news for once!
We recently sounded the alarm because a top Senator planned to try to use an obscure Senate procedure called a “hotline” to ram through the Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA), a dangerous and misguided censorship bill that would make kids less safe, rather than more safe.1
Last week, Politico reported that Senator Cantwell (D-WA) is backing down, and saying she’ll delay the hotline citing ongoing concerns about how KOSA could harm civil liberties and LGBTQ rights.2
That buys us precious time to continue building our opposition to this draconian legislation. Will you chip in so we can redouble our efforts to oppose Internet censorship?
Donate to Stop KOSA
KOSA being delayed shows that our tactics are working. With your help, we’ve driven hundreds of thousands of emails and calls to lawmakers, organized dozens of meetings with key Congressional staff, placed op-eds in high profile outlets, and built a massive coalition of human rights and civil liberties groups standing together against bad bills like KOSA.3,4
But we can’t afford to let up for one second. The main sponsor of KOSA, Senator Blumenthal (D-CT), has already said he wants to try to push for a vote as soon as Congress returns in January.5
And to make matters worse, we’re facing a significant year-end fundraising shortfall. If we don’t meet our goal, we’ll start the new year behind, and we may not be able to mount enough opposition to stop KOSA and other bad bills like the EARN IT Act.
We know not everyone can donate.6 But if you can afford to chip in, even $5 or $10, it makes a huge difference for a small nonprofit like us. Please donate today if you can.
Here at FFTF we’re really proud of how good we are at stopping bad bills like KOSA. It’s one of our specialties. And we can only do it with your help, so thank you for your support.
Together,
Evan at Fight for the Future
