We need your support.
Dear John,
We are in the last stretches of 2023 and launching a campaign to raise $5,000 before the new year. Will you close out your year by helping us reach this goal ([link removed]) ?

As we conclude our third year as an organization (and our biggest yet!), we are proud of our continued growth and excited to recap the successes we have achieved across our program areas with you.
Climate Justice
We were instrumental in the February 2023 passage of Eugene’s electrification ordinance ([link removed]) , although a decision out of the Ninth Circuit Court has meant we must pivot ([link removed]) our strategy in the fight against “natural” methane gas.
Because of our effective campaign against the gas industry, we incited gas utilities company NW Natural ([link removed]) to spend over a million dollars trying to fight local climate policy.
Multnomah County filed a first-of-its-kind lawsuit ([link removed]) against major oil and gas companies, and we helped organize the day-of action and coordinated communications.
Breach drew attention to the Zenith scandal ([link removed]) that we uncovered via records requests, in which Portland City Officials negotiated and tried to cover up ([link removed]) a backroom deal ([link removed]) with the Texas-based fossil fuel company – all with no public involvement.
To further escalate pressure ([link removed]) in the campaigns against Zenith Energy and NW Natural – dubbed Portland’s “Climate Villains” – we supported youth climate activists' organization and media coverage of a rally to demand action from elected officials.
We led a successful workshop series for Portland youth climate organizers ([link removed]) throughout the month of August and are in the process of planning something similar for the new year.

Worker Justice
Consistent with our objective to grow union density and worker power within the progressive nonprofit sector, Breach staff have supported labor efforts on a number of fronts.
Our staff have:
* Worked closely with our Board of Directors to ratify one of the most progressive union contracts ([link removed]) in the United States. This helps to cement our value ([link removed]) of internally embodying what we work to advance in the world.
* Joined the interim Executive Board of our union’s Local, Communications Workers of America (CWA) 7901, to build it back up after it was put in receivership over the summer.
* Supported workers at nonprofits ([link removed]) across ([link removed]) Oregon ([link removed]) to launch unionization campaigns, negotiate severance packages, and bargain for progressive contracts.
* Supported the development of Green Union Hall ([link removed]) – and we hope to see some of you at tomorrow’s virtual happy hour ([link removed]) !
* Partnered with CWA to develop an exciting project that we will launch in early 2024. If you’re a nonprofit worker who’s interested in starting a successful unionization campaign at your workplace, this is for you. Stay tuned!

Since the spring, we’ve led communications for the Protect the Protest ([link removed]) coalition. Relatedly, we organized opposition to two bills that could affect the right to protest in Oregon. Although unsuccessful in stopping the bills, we generated significant media ([link removed]) coverage ([link removed]) about the controversial nature of the bills, mobilized thousands of comments to legislators, and the bills were narrowed substantially in response.
While these are all big steps toward justice, these fights are not over and we need your support to win ([link removed]) .
The fossil fuel industry and extractive capitalism are designed to oppress us, but these wins show that grassroots power can prevail. Please make a tax-deductible donation ([link removed]) or set up a recurring monthly donation ([link removed]) today to help us grow our organization and expand our impact advancing climate and worker justice.
With gratitude,
Caitlin and the Breach Team
