John,
We are in a crisis.
The coronavirus is exposing some of the cracks in our social safety net. The federal government and the Texas state government have been far too slow to react, leaving cities and private companies to take necessary steps to slow the spread of COVID-19. There are large implications for federal inaction.
One of those implications is our upcoming elections. Poll workers and voters may be scared to go to the polls. Our most vulnerable citizens will be at the greatest risk: older Americans, people who are immunocompromised, and people who simply cannot afford to get sick and miss work. Their voices may not be heard at the ballot box — and that is unacceptable.
Texas is one of the few states that does not allow “excuse-free” vote-by-mail, and we need to change that. Let’s expand our voting rights and push for universal vote-by-mail.
The right to vote is our most fundamental right in a democratic society. We cannot let that right be threatened by this public health crisis. There is too much at stake, for our health, for our democracy, and for our future.
When I am in Congress, I will fight for legislation that would guarantee universal access to vote-by-mail. And until then, I am fighting here in Texas to push county and state officials to expand voting by mail during the May 26 runoff election and the November general election.
I need your help so I can take the fight for voting rights to Washington, DC. Donate right now so we can make sure that every vote counts. [[link removed]]

Mike
