As Bernie said on the floor, Hamas’ horrific attacks on October 7th were a threat to Israel’s security, and Israel has every right to defend itself against future attacks.

However, illegally bombing civilians in Gaza only makes the situation on ground worse, strengthens Hamas’ political position, and endangers the Israeli hostages who are still held captive.

As Americans painfully learned in the years after the September 11th attacks, the way to defeat terrorism is not through cruel violence and costly wars that only generate more support for terrorist causes.
