John -
News just broke that at least 2,456 fossil fuel lobbyists have been granted access to the COP28 climate negotiations. That is 19 fossil fuel lobbyists for every country attending COP28.1
The last week of the negotiations at COP28 starts soon, and it could mean either huge progress for renewable energy and our planet or a massive step backward and victories for the fossil fuel industry.
That is why we are setting out to keep climate activists at COP28 for even longer than we had planned — so we can raise our voices and demands against the voices and demands of the fossil fuel lobby — but that is going to take additional resources that we hadn't planned for.
We can't let these fossil fuel lobbyists win, John, so we are asking for your help:
Thanks to hundreds of grassroots supporters like you, we were able to send EVERY climate activist we could to COP28. These climate activists were able to directly confront oil giant and CEO of TotalEnergies, urging him to help release Ugandan climate activists who were wrongfully imprisoned for their climate work. That only happened because the donations of everyday people like you helped us to get activists on the ground.
But the scale of oil and gas influence at COP28 is unprecedented — there are more fossil fuel lobbyists than representatives from the 10 countries that are most vulnerable to the climate crisis combined.2
If we are able to raise more funds in the next 48 hours, we can keep climate activists at COP28 and continue to fight back against the fossil fuel lobby. John, can we count on your help today so we can fight back?
Thank you for your support today, and every day. None of this work is possible without supporters like you.
In solidarity,
May Boeve
