Post Guild members to go on 24-hour unfair labor practice strike this Thursday

Workers at the Washington Post have been in contract negotiations for 18 months but still have not arrived at an agreement on fair pay, and the publisher is refusing to bargain in good faith.
In response to this, the Post Guild has announced a 24-hour unfair labor practice strike this Thursday, and is asking allies everywhere to be in solidarity. Here's how to help:
The Washington-Baltimore News Guild, which represents more than 1,000 editorial, advertising and other non-news staff at the Post, said mismanagement by the previous publisher led to nearly 40 layoffs last year — half from the newsroom — and the company was now seeking to cut another 240 jobs through buyouts." Morgan State and employees’ union tentatively agree to contract

Morgan State University and AFSCME Maryland Council 3 have tentatively agreed on a contract they have been negotiating since 2020. The tentative deal will grant workers a flat dollar amount increase to their salaries, a percentage increase based on years of service, and enhanced provisions related to safety.

The new contract comes as AFSCME continues tense negotiations with the University System of Maryland, which does not oversee Morgan State but includes 12 other higher education institutions. Read more »

Union leaders: Online casino gambling would cost Maryland hundreds of jobs

Maryland’s six brick and mortar casinos directly employ 6,715 people and generate an annual economic impact of $2.96 billion that supports 15,364 jobs in the state. A 10.2% reduction in gaming revenue would mean a loss of 685 direct jobs and 1,567 total jobs in Maryland. ATU Local 689: "Transdev okay paying Fairfax Connector workers the least in the region"

Contract talks slowed to a crawl last week between ATU Local 689 and Transdev during a bargaining session on Friday. In a statement to press earlier today, ATU Local 689 said the company has once again failed to provide a comprehensive and realistic counter proposal to key priorities including higher wages, better sick leave, retirement security, and improved vacation days among other things.
