Report: Washington college students experience homelessness ? but support keeps them enrolled

A joint report from the Washington Student Achievement Council and Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges puts a spotlight on a pilot program addressing the critical barrier of basic needs insecurity for students.

The Supporting Students Experiencing Homelessness (SSEH) pilot program was enacted by the Washington State Legislature in 2019, with expansions in 2021 and 2022. SSEH provides grants for colleges to build systems to identify and support students facing homelessness and students who have aged out of the foster care system. Students of color, who are disproportionately impacted by basic needs insecurity, represent half of the students served.
