It is hard to imagine what is happening in many American Jewish communities right now. As Tony Kinnett ([link removed]) describes, overt persecution and even violence have become such a part of Jewish life that business owners, college students, and even entire families are having to resort to disguising their Jewish identity as they try to live their day-to-day lives. How is this happening in our country? German pastor Martin Niemöller personally observed in the 1930s how easily civil society can dissolve when those who are unaffected by overt evil look the other way.
