From Niagara Falls to the Adirondack Mountains to the Statue of Liberty, our New York represents the best of what our nation can be, so it’s no surprise that immigrant communities have been making New York their home for centuries. While our opponents move to erase the histories of those who came before us, we are fighting to protect New York’s legacy as a welcoming place for all.
What we have achieved together in the past year is astonishing. During the last year, more than 125,000 people came through New York City. The NYIC showed up to greet them with dignity, and together, we fought to make sure that our community members has the tools they need to build their lives here.
At the federal level, we won a huge victory for tens of thousands in New York with the redesignation of Temporary Protected Status for Venezuelans, Afghans, and Cameroonians. We also secured $800 million for welcoming cities and towns across the country.
At the state level, we expanded the Child Tax Credit to include children four years and under, making a huge difference in the lives of working families. We secured $73 million to expand the Office for New Americans to meet the legal service needs of immigrant New Yorkers.
In New York City, we fought hard to secure $16 million to help previously excluded undocumented families defray the cost of childcare, maintained and defended immigration legal services, adult literacy education, and so much more against mayoral austerity.
We will keep fighting until all of the needs of our community are met, no matter how many families choose to call New York home. Join our fight with a donation today.
