Hunger is a Political Choice: HFA's Annual Survey Garners Media Attention

Every year, Hunger Free America releases our annual survey on hunger in America. This year we were joined by Members of Congress and leading anti-hunger advocates at multiple events.
This year, food hardship is up 40% nationally in America compared to 2022, due in part to inflation and the expiration of expanded Child Tax Credits and universal school meals.

Our annual survey shows, once again, why HFA's work is vital. As Americans continue to struggle against hunger and food insecurity, our team works to connect families with resources like SNAP and WIC, and advocate for policies that will lift people out of poverty.

Indiana University Students Making a Difference This Thanksgiving
Over their Thanksgiving break, five dedicated students from Indiana University visited Hunger Free America's headquarters in New York for a week of service. They distributed information about food resources in the community and worked with our partners to help people access nutritious food during the holiday. We are grateful for their service.

Fighting for Women, Infants and Children
Believe it or not, conservative members of Congress are currently attempting to cut funding for WIC, which provides nutrition supplements for pregnant women, infants, and children under five. This is the first time in the history of the WIC program (which was created by President Nixon in the early 1970s) that any national leaders have sought to cut it.

In 2022, Hunger Free America secured over $1 million in WIC benefits for families, and ensured that more than 1,500 women, infants and children were enrolled in the program.

We must implore our representatives to fight cuts to WIC funding in any future funding bills. You can find contact information for your local reps at the link below.
