Dear Friend,

This week saw Full Fact, with the support of hundreds of donors, hit our fundraising target in the Big Give Christmas Challenge.

This will help us continue our fact checking and campaigning work ahead of next year's general election, including our ongoing campaign to stop political parties dressing up leaflets to look like local newspapers.

If you haven’t had a chance to support this campaign click below to sign the petition:

In the meantime I know many of you will have received more than the usual amount of emails from Full Fact over the last few weeks. Our fundraising work is an essential part of keeping us independent and ready for a pending election.

In the coming weeks we should return to our usual schedule of one or two emails per week.
Best wishes,

Craig, Digital Campaigns Manager—Full Fact
FACT CHECKS

** Full Fact writes to PM for the second time over 100,000 ‘migrant deal’ claim ([link removed])
------------------------------------------------------------

On 29th November at Prime Minister's Questions, Rishi Sunak once again claimed that Labour wants to do a “secret backroom deal with the EU that would see an additional 100,000 migrants here every year”. The way this number has been calculated is incorrect.

We’ve written previously to the Prime Minister and encouraged our supporters to do so asking him not to repeat this claim. Last week our CEO Chris Morris wrote once more to Rishi Sunak asking him not to repeat it. We’ve yet to receive a response.

** Social media appeals to reunite owner with injured dog are likely hoaxes ([link removed])
------------------------------------------------------------
Social media posts appealing to find the owner of a dog allegedly struck by a car have been shared widely across Facebook. But this does not appear to be genuine, as locations for the same “hit-and-run” incident claimed to have injured the same dog have been repeated across local groups ranging from the UK to America.

Duplicate posts name different locations for the incident across the UK, including in Doncaster, Tameside, Grimsby, Wyton in Cambridgeshire, Camberley in Surrey, Aberdeen and Edinburgh in Scotland.

** ‘Illegal immigrants’ aren’t entitled to benefits in the UK ([link removed])
------------------------------------------------------------
A post shared hundreds of times on Facebook says: “The best barrier for stopping illegal immigrants is to stop ALL benefits to illegal immigrants”.

People in the UK without a legal right to be here are not entitled to claim any benefits. Asylum seekers, including those who arrive in the UK on small boats for example, also can’t claim welfare benefits, but do receive some financial support from the government as well as help with housing if they need it.
