Former Republican Attorney General and MAGA extremist Brad Schimel just announced he’s running for Wisconsin Supreme Court. This is the start of the GOP’s race to take back the Supreme Court majority.

This is not good.

Brad Schimel is vocally anti-abortion and supports Wisconsin's draconian 1849 abortion ban. He is a staunch supporter of voter ID laws that disenfranchise many Wisconsinies — primarily people of color, students, and the elderly. He has attempted to dismantle the Affordable Care Act. And he has defended Republicans’ heavily gerrymandered maps.

But that’s not all. There is a reason why Schimel only served one term as Attorney General. He left thousands of rape kits untested at the State Crime Lab and wasted millions of taxpayer dollars on voter suppression and abortion restrictions.

Wisconsinites voted Schimel out for a reason. He is a danger to our democracy and is not fit to serve on Wisconsin’s highest court.

Republicans are preparing to return the conservative majority to the Supreme Court. And I have no doubt they will have the funding and mega-donors to back them.

It’s simple: Republicans are not happy with how many Wisconsinites elected Justice Janet Protasiewicz in April, and they are taking every route possible to avenge their losses. Whether it be threatening impeachment against Justice Janet, firing bipartisan elections commissioner Meagan Wolfe, or backing an extremist candidate like Schimel.

They have made it clear that they will stop at nothing to take back power.

So we must continue our fight to not only flip the Wisconsin state legislature but gear up to fight Schimel.
