"We fight for territory, because whoever has territory has a place to return to. Those who have a place to return to, have a mother, have refuge and healing." – Célia Xakriabá

------

We are so grateful to this amazing community for helping us surpass our Giving Tuesday match for the Amazon! Thanks to you, right now, Amazon Watch staff are accompanying Indigenous women leaders from Brazil at the UN Climate Change Conference (COP28) in Dubai, as the world demands real action on the climate crisis. We are there at our partners’ request to amplify Indigenous calls for a commitment to a just energy transition, one that avoids mining on Indigenous lands.

From the front lines of the rainforest to the halls of COP28, we are joining Earth Defenders to amplify their voices around the world. Will you donate today to support Indigenous peoples saying no to mining in their ancestral territories? We’re grateful to announce that generous donors have offered to match all gifts up to $200,000 through December 31, making your impact go twice as far for the Amazon and our planet!

IN SOLIDARITY WITH EARTH DEFENDERS, MATCH MY GIFT: [link removed]

Your gift protects the rainforest by advancing Indigenous land rights!

We are at COP with Célia Xakriabá, a leader from the Xakriabá people and a Federal Deputy in Brazil’s Congress, who joins Indigenous women across the Amazon calling to protect their ancestral territories. Indigenous women are not backing down in their defense of the “heart pump” of our planet.

In this spirit, will you consider making a special year-end donation, which will be doubled? As Célia shares, Indigenous peoples will never stop fighting to defend their ancestral lands. Your solidarity truly makes a difference.

We have seen their resistance overwhelm even the most powerful industries and governments when allies around the world – like you – answer their calls to say no to rainforest destruction and yes to Amazon protection.

For the rainforest and Mother Earth,

Leila Salazar-López
Executive Director

P.S. A monthly donation to Amazon Watch is a great way to be in solidarity with Indigenous women defenders all year long! Your first monthly gift will still be matched, and you can make changes to your donation at any time.
