Tell Congress: Protect the Endangered Species Act!
[link removed]

The Endangered Species Act turns 50 years old this month, but it is still vulnerable to attacks, as are all species who depend on its critical protections to survive. Contact your Legislators today and ask them to oppose all threats to the Endangered Species Act and protect whales, grizzly bears, gray wolves, and other imperiled species!

Take Action Now!

Dear Supporter,

Fifty years ago this month, in an overwhelmingly bipartisan vote, Congress passed the Endangered Species Act (ESA) and President Nixon signed it into law. Since that day, 99 percent of the species under its protection have been saved from extinction, making it one of our nation's most effective conservation laws.

Despite this outstanding success and the American public's continued strong support for the ESA, many endangered species and the Act itself are again under attack from anti-regulation, anti-wildlife interests in Congress.

For example, only an estimated 51 Rice's whales and approximately 350 North Atlantic Right Whales remain in the wild. Yet hostile lawmakers are trying to stop the designation of critical habitat and other urgently needed protections to save these majestic whales from imminent extinction.

These attacks are happening in Congress through amendments to "must-pass" legislation, such as appropriations and defense bills, to strip ESA protections from species like whales, grizzly bears, and gray wolves. Others would prevent the listing of species, such as the greater sage grouse. Many attempt to gut critical components of the ESA itself.

Tell your Legislators: We need the Endangered Species Act more than ever before. Stop attacks on the Act and imperiled wild species! [link removed]

With 41 percent of ecosystems at risk of range-wide collapse in the US, and 40 percent of animals and 36% of plants at risk of extinction, we need the ESA more than ever before.1

We are in the midst of the first mass extinction directly caused by humans. Species are going extinct at a rate 1000 times faster than ever before, because of us. Act now to protect the interconnected natural systems that humanity – and all life – depend upon.

On this 50th anniversary of the ESA, we must send a strong message to Congress that the American public wants their legislators to stand up for Earth's incredible biodiversity and the natural systems upon which we all rely. Conservation and protection of the natural world should have strong bipartisan support, as it did when the Act was passed in 1973.

Tell your legislators: Protect earth's biodiversity – stop attacks on imperiled species and the Endangered Species Act!

If you have a moment, please add a brief personal message about why this issue matters to you, which will make your letter even more influential.

Thank you for using your voice and perspective to protect the Endangered Species Act!
