Editing an editing program for editors? Challenge accepted!
|
I like to think I'm a pretty decent editor.
I spent a few years as the managing editor of poynter.org. I've created curriculum that's been widely used in college journalism courses. And in 20-plus years of eyeballing other journalists' work, I've added that clutch "L" in "public" more than once.
But in an effort to really test my skills, I recently helped create — get this! — an editing certification for editors in partnership with a professional editing organization. No pressure, right? So how did we do?
You tell me, if you decide to enroll in the new Poynter ACES Intermediate Certificate in Editing.
Enrollees will get a thorough grounding in ethics, law, advanced grammar and techniques for working with writers. You'll also discover the productivity methods favored by WIRED's special projects editor, the advice a senior editor at the LA Times gives over and over, and the best ways to avoid the wrong side of a subpoena, according to CNN's legal counsel.
Read below to find out more about the intermediate launch, our popular introductory certificate, and other training opportunities.
And let me know if, God forbid, you spot a typo.
