As the Minnesota Department of Revenue gets ready for the next filing season, here are some things you can do to prepare yourself as one of more than 24,000 tax professionals submitting Minnesota returns to us:

• Register for our annual tax pro webinar on December 12, 2023, where we will cover 2023 tax law changes you need to know about.
• Renew your PTIN for 2024 and verify its accuracy in your software control file. Beginning in 2024, we will assess penalties for preparers who continually file returns with invalid PTINs.
• Order Nongame Wildlife Fund promotional materials through the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources? website.
• Review our 2023 draft forms and instructions and familiarize yourself with the changes.
• Use resources in our new Outreach Toolkit to promote new and expanded tax credits.
• Review the Homestead Credit Refund qualifications and see if you have clients who qualify.
  • Note: If clients with Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers (ITINs) owned and occupied their home on January 2, 2023, they can homestead their property by December 31, 2023, to qualify for the 2022 refund.
