While we help thousands of people, with hundreds of cases each year, each one of those cases represents real people, with real struggles, and real hope that we deliver.

When I think of real people, I think of people like Shawn and Teresa Kellim.

Shawn and Teresa are passionate about fostering children. The state of Oregon recently denied their license because their sincerely religious beliefs prevent them from affirming homosexuality and transgenderism.

John, this is a direct example of civil liberties and religious freedom being attacked on an individual level.

Unwilling to take DHS’ ruling lying down, the Christian couple from a small town in Oregon sought assistance from the Pacific Justice Institute. We immediately appealed DHS’ ruling on their behalf.

“Oregon’s Department of Human Services’s action blatantly suggests that Kellim’s free exercise of religion does not apply to foster care youth, and it is unquestionably an attack on Christianity”, said PJI Oregon staff attorney, Ray D. Hacke.

While this case has broader implications for Christians everywhere, we stand with Shawn and Terea Kellim as they face unfair, illegal religious liberty persecution, all within our very own legal system.
