Dear Friend,
I recently secured $1 million in federal funding for the Native American Community Clinic (NACC) in South Minneapolis! This new funding will allow NACC, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, to double its impact – expanding its reach from serving 5,000 to nearly 10,000 unique patients yearly. Since 2003,NACC's mission has been to promote the health, wellness of mind, body and spirit of Native American families in the Twin Cities. They provide a full range of healthcare services including medical, behavioral health, dental, and substance abuse programs. This funding will empower them to serve more Native American people through critical housing and healthcare services.
Big Brothers Big Sisters
I visited Big Brothers Big Sisters Twin Cities, a youth mentoring organization that serves over 2,500 children in the Minneapolis area. They create and support one-on-one mentoring relationships to ignite the power and promise of youth. During my visit, I met, mentors, and staff to learn more about the impact of Big Brothers Big Sisters Twin Cities' mentoring programs. In my role on the House Budget Committee, I’m proud to support federal funding for youth mentoring. Investing in the futures of youth from all backgrounds is key. I'm committed to advancing policies and dollars that help organizations like BBBS carry out their mission of empowerment and guidance.

Educating Students on Congress at Lakeview Elementary in Robbinsdale
I had the joy of visiting engaged students at Lakeview Elementary. I read “The Proudest Blue” to third graders and "Grace Goes to Washington" to eager first graders. Their curiosity and hunger for purpose showed me our next generation is in good hands! Discussing these books opened thoughtful conversations about identity, government, and civic participation. I also spoke to students about what my job entails as a congress woman. During the pandemic I introduced the MEALS Act, which provided funding for public school meals during the pandemic. This year, Minnesota was the first of 8 states to instill universal free meals for public school students. I will continue to fight for early childhood education to help equip young people to enact positive change
Update on the Temporary Ceasefire
Last week, a critical ceasefire agreement was reached to halt the bombardment of Gaza. This deal established a truce, facilitated release of hostages, and ramped up desperately needed humanitarian aid into Gaza.
While the initial 48-hour truce was extended by two days, it expired on November 30th. I am grateful this deal brought temporary relief to Gazans and secured an Israeli hostage release. But the world must continue pushing for a permanent ceasefire and release of all remaining hostages to end this horrific violence long-term.
Event Don’t forget about Medicare Open Enrollment!
Now through December 7th is your chance to review and change your Medicare coverage during the Open Enrollment Period. This is the time when you can compare your current Medicare health and prescription drug plans with other options that may better meet your needs. People with high prescription drug costs will see their out-of-pocket spending capped at around $3,500. This cap will continue to decrease in future years. In addition, many Medicare beneficiaries will continue to save hundreds of dollars thanks to the new $35 monthly cap on insulin costs and coverage of recommended vaccines at no cost.
Beneficiaries can explore Medicare plans using the Plan Finder website located here.
Please contact our office if you need help comparing plans or have any other questions.
In Service,
Ilhan Omar
