John,
Justice Democrats incumbent Jamaal Bowman officially has a new primary opponent in the 2024 race for his U.S. House seat in New York’s 16th district.
As of this morning, AIPAC-recruited Westchester County Executive George Latimer filed to run against Jamaal in the Democratic primary next June.
Latimer is notably one of the few Democrats in office who continued to defend disgraced New York Governor Andrew Cuomo after sexual harassment allegations — he disgustingly went as far as comparing Cuomo’s critics to the mob that lynched Emmett Till.
Unlike Jamaal, this moderate, white, career politician has been in public office for 35 years and now wants to turn back the clock on progress by primarying one of our progressive movement’s rising stars in a majority-minority district. So it’s no surprise he opposes a ceasefire in Gaza and is being actively courted by anti-Palestinian groups funded by the GOP like AIPAC in this race.
According to Axios, Jamaal is the Squad member “facing the biggest threat” of losing his seat next year, and Politico says this will be “one of the highest-profile primary battles in New York’s history.”
We appreciate anything you can contribute to help us defend Jamaal’s seat and keep him fighting for our progressive movement in Washington.
