Friends,
In light of developments surrounding the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, I wanted to reach out and assure you that I’m acting swiftly with leaders in Congress to address this public health crisis and keep Upstate New Yorkers healthy and safe.
Our response must be multi-pronged, focusing on the physical, mental, and economic well-being of Americans. The package that I’m pushing for in the House will address these pillars by guaranteeing paid sick leave for anyone who cannot go into work, covering unemployment insurance for those who cannot take on the cost of falling ill, and provide free tests to anyone who needs one.
It is also incumbent on all of us to follow the guidance of medical professionals if we’re going to slow the spread of COVID-19 and keep each other safe. Here are a few easy ways you can help:
- Know the symptoms. If you’re experiencing a cough, fever, difficulty breathing, or pneumonia, please isolate yourself and contact your doctor.
- Keep a safe space from family, friends, or anyone you come in contact with who is sick.
- Wash your hands often, with soap and warm water, for 20 seconds at a time.
- Clean and disinfect any hard surfaces in your home or work environment.
- Cover your mouth and nose with your hand, elbow, or a tissue when you cough and sneeze.
And please, keep yourself and your family updated by checking the Centers for Disease Control’s COVID-19 website or calling the New York Department of Health’s COVID-19 hotline at 1-888-364-3065.
Thank you in advance for doing your part and working with me to keep our community safe.
Stay healthy,
Anthony Brindisi
