Lesson #1: Layer, layer, and until the zipper is almost stuck… keep layering!
The most important step of petitioning in winter happens before you even grab the clipboard. I check the radar each morning and see the winds whipping over the Mississippi as the temperatures drop into the single digits! You need at least two pairs of socks, a minimum of three layers over your core, and probably two pairs of pants. Furry boots encouraged.
Lesson #2: You can never have enough pens!
Believe it or not, they all freeze. Seriously, every pocket should have multiple. I even recommend bringing some spare boxes in the car!
Lesson #3: Bring a friend!
It’s a lot more fun with company. Dog treats help too so you can make friends along the way!
Lesson #4: Wear gloves!
Yes, this is separate from layering because it’s just that important. Your fingers will thank you later.
Lesson #5: Have a good smile!
The goal is to talk to voters and fighting for democracy puts a smile on my face. We all could use more smiles!
