News of the coronavirus is dominating much of the conversation around the world and in our state. I'd like to take a moment to provide some helpful information as we continue working through this difficult time.
It is important that we each take steps to avoid spreading the virus. Wash your hands often, and avoid close contact with others. To read the CDC's complete recommendations for preventing the coronavirus, click here.
Make sure that you are able to identify COVID-19 symptoms. If you begin to display any of these symptoms, please stay home and avoid contact, except to get medical care.
Finally, I'd like to remind everyone to be aware of potential scams. If you are concerned about a scam, you may contact my office here, or call 1-877-5-NO-SCAM. A few helpful tips:
Do not purchase products claiming to be miracle cures. There is currently no cure or vaccine for this virus.
North Carolina's price gouging law makes it illegal to charge too much during a crisis and it's now in effect for coronavirus. Report potential price gouging here, or call 1-877-5-NO-SCAM.
Be wary of fraudulent products advertised as the real thing. This is especially important for high-demand goods like hand sanitizer and face masks.
If you are planning to give to a charity for COVID-19 causes, be sure it is legitimate. Search the NC Secretary of State registry first.
It is important that each of us take this crisis seriously. It is also important that each of us remain calm. Share this information with your friends and family, and continue to follow the appropriate precautions as we work through this together.
