NEW: 15,000 MSNBC viewers (and counting) have signed our petition urging the network to save Mehdi Hasan’s shows. The pressure on MSNBC is mounting!
Just today, Washington Post columnist Perry Bacon Jr. published an op-ed saying: "The network should reverse its decision on Hasan."
Our petition, which launched last Thursday, was highlighted this weekend by The Nation, and endorsed by former MSNBC host Keith Olbermann, who urged his followers to sign. Olbermann joins Representative Maxwell Frost, who Tweeted on Thursday, "I just signed this petition and you should too!" This follows prominent coverage from the Washington Post and Politico last week.
The Nation called Mehdi Hasan's recent takedown of Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy "a reminder of just how powerful a television interview can be when the questioner is relentless in pursuit of the truth... the candidate, who sought to present himself as an outsider taking on the status quo, was exposed as just another ill-prepared and inconsistent political grandstander."
Since Thursday, social media has been filled with posts from prominent media, cultural, and political leaders such as:
- Bipartisan congressional voices like former Republican Congressman Joe Walsh, and Reps. Frost, Pressley, Omar, and Khanna
- Major media voices like NYT’s Jonathan Swan, NYU Journalism Professor Jay Rosen, xxxxxx Editor-in-Chief Charlie Sykes
- Luke Skywalker Mark Hamill
- Former Obama speechwriter Tommy Vietor
- Former NAACP President Sherrilyn Ifill
